How to Choose Higher Education in Ukraine 2025?

There are rumors that about 50% of Ukrainians work outside their field of study...
One of the reasons is making the wrong educational choice during the admission process.
There's a problem that for about 2 years, applicants are taught how to properly prepare for ZNO or NMT (standardized tests), but almost no one tells them how to properly choose higher education. Because of this, when it comes to submitting applications, it's difficult for applicants to consciously choose a university and specialty. They usually select what they "heard somewhere sometime" rather than what matches their ambitions and abilities.
We've tried to collect useful resources and tips for choosing higher education institutions and specialties:

1. Choose a specialty. Easier said than done. But here are resources that will help you:

  • StudSearch.org
    • a site with student volunteers from various universities and specialties. Choose students by specialty and ask them in private messages. Receive feedback about the quality of education, differences between specialties, prospects after graduation, dormitory conditions, and much more.
  • vstup.edbo.gov.ua
    • the official site with results of admission campaigns from previous years. Look at the passing and average scores. Try to enter where the smartest students study. This is your future environment that will encourage you to develop.
  • The School
    • video interviews with students. You can hear answers to the most common questions about specialties and universities.

2. Choose a university. Find your Hogwarts. Here's what can help:

  • vstup.edbo.gov.ua
    • choose a university with the highest passing scores for your specialty.
  • Abitly.org
    • Like the official EDBO, it allows you to view passing scores and statistics from previous years, but much more conveniently, faster, and more functionally. For example, universities and competitive offers are sorted by coolness rating, not alphabetically. You can bookmark, search by various filters, and sort the catalog as you wish. Like an online store, but for choosing higher education.
  • UniverCheck
    • Like "Heads and Tails" but for universities. Cool reviews of the most popular universities in Ukraine, overviews of specialties.
  • Visit university websites to see what opportunities they offer.
  • Find student Telegram/Instagram channels. See what student life is like, what student organizations exist, and what interesting activities they engage in. What vibe they have and whether it matches yours.
It's really great when there are many people at your university who want to change the world for the better. If student activism helps spread information about student projects, it will be easy and quick for you to launch your own startup or pet project.

3. Visit open house days (at least online).

Seeing where you'll have to live and study for the next 4-6 years is definitely worthwhile. You can also take the opportunity to talk with students and teachers.

4. Use this cool CheckList from CEDOS.

And remember!

Yes, admission is responsible and difficult, but remember that you're not alone. Don't be afraid to ask for help or advice. Most students and teachers will gladly give you answers to all your concerning questions.
You are the future of our country.
Good luck in choosing the best higher education!
